Is it okay to translate documents such as contracts for myself ?

Hi Laetitia,

If the documents are official documents that need certification or to be signed by a sworn translator, I would definitely say it's not ethical.
Even if it is into your mother tongue, what I'd suggest is that you do the translation and find a collegue to proofread and sign/certify it.

In case it's something more informal, I'd consult with the person/organisation before which it should be produced, if they'd be happy with your translation (but don't forget you'd be an interested party). Anyway, it depends on the situation.
