I have to compile a french-english legal glossary as part of my translation studies homework.

I have been given search criteria by the tutor and this has confused me. I used to search the Internet with no problem; now I am trying to adhere to these search criteria and can't find anything.

Can anybody help me please. I am getting very depressed with my lack of success.

Quels critères vous a-t-on donnés? Dec 29, 2005

Si vous voulez qu'on vous aide, il faudrait d'abord savoir ce qui vous cause des problèmes. Pouvez-vous nous expliquer ce que votre tuteur veut que vous fassiez?

Homework question: create glossary (80 terms + 20 phrases) Dec 29, 2005

80 SL/TL pairs of terminology items
20/SL/TL phrase pairs
Include columns for SL, TL + any other relevant info.

Information must be from Internet + a variety of websites.

Describe techniques + methods used to find some of terms. Explain how you evaluated the usefulness + reliability of material found. Provide examples from your glossary.

Where I lack confidence is that I have to justify everything:
the data and web resources used
evidence and understanding of internet search techniques
describe how terms and phrases were found and evaluated

If I am translating from French to English does that automatically mean the database has to be French to English. It is harder for me to search for legal terms in French.

Try that one Dec 29, 2005

Hi, LIsa

Voici l'adresse d'un excellent dictionnaire français-anglais-français. You should be able to use it to compile your glossary. As fas as I know, there is no French (from France) on-line dictionary.

Happy New Year and good luck!
