Hi
I am a student at the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, Canada..I am doing my thesis on Design Improvement of Mining Wheels.. I have about 5 pages of information in French...Can any one of you help me by getting it translated into English.. That would be highly helpful for me to further proceed with my research work..

regards,
Vivek

Post as a job Jun 13, 2006

Hi Vivek,

And welcome to ProZ.

Regarding the information you need translated, 5 pages is a lot and even more, considering it is supposedly a very specialised text.

It is very unlikely that someone will just translate this text for peanuts, so your best bet would be to post this as a job and offer payment for the translation.

Good luck with your studies!

Best wishes,

Ingo

Dear Vivek,

The forum is an area for discussion of issues related to translation, not a bulletin board for placing translation work. Since you require translation of a document, you will need to repost your request in the form of a job.

However, please keep in mind, when posting a job, that this is a Website for professional translators; that is, they earn their living from translation, so they can only devote a limited amount of their time to low-paying or non-paying work.

If you do not receive replies to your job posting, your other alternative would be to use an automatic online translation tool, which may give you an approximation of the content in the French original, although, by no means, will it give a fully accurate rendering of the original. Here is one possibility for automatic translation:

...bathtubs Jun 13, 2006

I remember doing free translations for friends during high school and as university fresher. Quite dumb. They always tell you "hey you know the language, com'on, don't be selfish!" Now I wouldn't ask a plumber to fix my bathtub for free just on the grounds that he/she knows bathtubs. What I honeslty suggest you is to seek for a fresher who "knows the language" and hasn't thought about bathtubs yet... Or just post as job. What I honeslty suggest you is to seek for a fresher who "knows the language" and hasn't thought about bathtubs yet... Or just post as job. Translating, like writing books or fixing bathtubs, takes time, like anything else. Ok, that was the mean part. But hey, if you really need it done and your budget is low (I perfectly understand that), you can try and stick a note to notice-boards in the language centre of your university offering, e.g. language tandem-learning in change. It worked with me once. But don't forget that translation is WORK.Collapse
