I have been a fan of these for most of my life. The phenomenom is called Pareidolia, and humans just can't not see faces, although they loose the ability to recognize (even real) faces under a number of possible circumstances:

Given that lots of these faces are in man-made objects, I think humans just can't help giving inanimate objects faces!

There is also a very beautiful short film by Pixar The blue umbrella in which many objects along the street – signs, lights, awnings, mailboxes – appear to come to life and develop faces and expressions of their own, enjoying the shower.
