My PC is infected with Opas Virus.
My AVG antivirus detects it and deletes it, but inmediately after the virus is deteced once again, and again, and again.
I'm working with Windows 98, and I've downloaded a patch, as it was recommended by some webpage regarding this virus that affects the net.
I've also deleted the registry RUN:C\ (+name of the virus) found at WIN.INI.
I've downloaded two tools for eliminating the virus. They work but only for five minutes... The virus is erased and like the Fenix, reborns.
Any other suggestion?

Thank you very much

disconnect from network Jul 12, 2003

it seems this is the most important step (if you are in a network); also disconnect from internet - everything that connects your computer to the outside world.

if you have already downloaded the Microsoft patches, try the removal tool from Symantec

you'll find it here:

good luck

Try this ! Jul 12, 2003

Hi Clarisa,

Try this :http://www.google.fr/search?q=cache:Tu-f__EC90cJ:www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/3197.html%20OPAS%20virus&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8

This virus can be removed only in the MS-DOS or Safe mode.

Please disable sharing of all drives on the machines. Only share necessary folders.
This virus uses security holes in the MS WIN 9x and MS WIN ME operating systems. Please download and run the security patches that are aviable from the link below:
Disable NetBIOS protocol (including NetBIOSu through TCP/IP protocol) on all workstations or NetBIOS protocol ports on your Proxy server.
Please remove binding to \"File and printer sharing\" in Bindings Tab under TCP/IP Properties for all TCP/IP protocols (the TCP/IP protocol is usually defined for every LAN or Dial-Up adapter) on all(!) computers in your LAN. The sharing itself will stay enabled - all shared resources will be accessible, but in your LAN only - not through TCP/IP protocol(Internet).
This virus is detected by AVG since version 393.

If it does not work, you can ask the question at http://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/3197.html

Bonne chance !

Opas - Opaserv Jul 12, 2003

Hi Clarisa!

I assume you are talking about Opaserv. I've worked as Tech Writer for GeCAD Software, producer of RAV AntiVirus, and never heard of OPAS virus (by the way, Opaserv is a worm, and not a virus).

It is important to have a reliable antivirus product and also to know what variant of the virus/worm you are infected with. With Opaserv, it is also important if you are working on a standalone computer or on a computer connected in a network.

Check the worm's description page on one of the major antivirus companies and look for disinfection instructions. You can also use one of the free online scanning services (http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan , for instance).

Follow the instructions and you should get rid of the worm in no time...

Regards from Bucharest,

Thank you all! Jul 15, 2003

Thanks! I managed to eliminate the WORM thanks to your advices (disconnecting the network, downloading the symantec tool and running it in MS-DOS mode, and other tips).
Beside, I downloaded a firewall -I don't know how to manage it yet, but I'm sure I will somedayicon_wink.gif
