Extracting text from a .tif file

Dear All,

Can you please help me with your advice on how I can extract text for translation from an image file .tif

Is there any way of doing it? May be there are some devices I could download?

I would be very thankful for any help.

Dear Engrus

I have often used a programme Freeware called WOCAR now called Simple OCR http://www.simpleocr.com/.

Not very good if you have a very large TIF file, you would need to break them in bite-sized pieces.

There are also other non-freeware OCR readers on the market too.

Extracting text from a .tif file Sep 18, 2003

In Windows XP, tif files open directly through MS Office Document Imaging. There you can use the "Send text to Word" button on the tools bar. You will be asked if you want to use the OCR tool, reply Yes. You can also run the OCR tool from the File menu in MS Office Document Imaging.

In Windows 98 you need a standalone OCR program. Open the program, select the desired tif file and run the OCR.
