My IE6 works as a browser, but programs tied to IE6 doesn´t open. Message: This program needs IE5 or higher, as if IE isn´t installed.(Running Windows 2000 Pro).
These programs are dictionaries and Access (from MS Officce 2000).
Trying change/remove gives the message>IE cannot be removed, run setup again.
Running setup again gives the message>all items are installed, quit setup.
Running instead reinstall doesn´t help neither.
I am moving in a circle and don´t know what to do next. Anybody has an idea?
thank you, barbara

some thoughts May 12, 2004

First of all, why do dictionaries and MS Access need Internet Explorer? Do you need to be online to access databases in Access? Are the dictionaries simply programs - what do they normally have to do with the www?

Ok next idea, I've had a lot of success with this one. Type the problem as concisely as possible into Google, using "quotes" whereever logically possible. For example:
"This program needs IE5 or higher" Windows 2000 Pro
Or generalized Stichwörter: problems IE5 Windows 2000 access dictionary program (without quotes)

Your should find one or two computer forums specifically discussing your problem. What I have done if I can't immediately find a clear solution at one of these site, is to register/ask a question in the forum giving as much specific info as possible and invariably someone answers quickly. The "internet community" is a wonderful thing, proz.com is a good example. Good luck,
dave

an easier idea May 12, 2004

Contact trados tech support (if the response is not quick in coming then contact any of the tech supports for the products which won't open.) One or all of them should be able to talk you through a solution. Wish I could help you further but if it's any consolation we all know what you're going through.

Try Microsoft support knowledge base May 12, 2004

Usually one can find good solutions there.
The link is: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=fh;[ln];kbhowto
Should this lead you to a german page, simply open www.microsoft.com and point to Support, choose Knowledge base.

Perhaps these articles may be of some help for you:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312451&Product=ie600
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;293907&Product=ie600
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;296279&Product=ie600

There should be a way to repair your installation, but this will need to play with the Registry. I do not know the solution for now, but if I find something, I'll post it here.

Regards
Jerzy
