scanned pdf document to word conversion Thread poster: eva75

I have a scanned pdf document (text as an image) that I need in Word. Having tried several pdf word converters, I've had no luck as each time I get the text as an image. What can I do?

I believe we've had that question before. A very frustrating aspect of our job, but you will have to start from scratch, I'm afraid. The ultimate image to document converter has not been invented yet. If you tried a few, including some good ones like Scansoft Converter, there is not much else you can try. Anne

OCR packages are the only possible solution, although if the scanning quality has not been good, the OCR would return gibberish.

Have put the demo version to the test on a minute font and am hugely impressed. Consider this cynic converted. I am buying ABBYY Finereader today. Many thanks for the tip!

I tested ABBYY and the results were quite impressive. of course, there was some formatting to be done, but at least it processed images, something I cannot say about other pdf-word converters (trial versions). Thank you Anne for your tip!

Fernando and Sarmb must take the credit; they suggested it before me. If only every other software programme was so easy to use and so reliable.

I wish I had known this sometime ago!! I was working on my case study and my source text had 7 images, which made my life miserable while their translation lasted. All I could do was edit them in Photoshop because there was simply no way. Thanks for the good tip! Mari

HI! I have just downloaded the trial version of Abby scan to office because I need to convert a PDF scanned file into a Word file. Well, when I browse to indicate which file I want to convert, I am shown only my fotograph folder, but the folder in which my file is looks empy, yet I know my PDF file has been scanned, ie it is not a real PDF file. What shoud I do?
