I'm thinking of doing a distance course with Words Language Services. (Ireland) Would the certificate they offer be any good when looking for a job? Should I go for their WLS Certificate in Translation first or go for the IOL Diploma in Translation straightaway?

If the course provider doesn't have any information on accredition, you could check with your ministry of education to see if the course is recognised in Ireland or the EU.

If you want to do the IoL's Diploma, the closing date for applications for the January 2004 exams is the end of this month. I know that City University in London offers a distance learning course for the IoL diploma, so that might be an option. Alternatively, you could think about doing an MA in translation, though I don't know if any of the Irish universities offer this as a distance learning option.

Good luck whatever you choose.

John

I'd better check with the Ministry of Education then. I didn't expect the closing date for applications to be so soon.

Thanks a lot for the information.
