Dear colleagues,

I am very interested in finding an online or distance course on medical translation. Does anybody have any information in this respect? I have tried to find one that suits my needs via the Internet with no success. Any info would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What comes to my mind... Jun 15, 2004

... is a course on medical terminology such as those offered for secretaries who wish to work in hospitals, clinics, etc.

Now, are those offered online, that I cannot say.

Good luck! I wish to establish myself as a medical translator too, I got my background knowledge of the medical field through the studies of my BSN and my work experience as a nurse...

And I've found this... Jun 15, 2004

It's a MSc in Scientific and Medical translation. Looks VERY interesting to me! http://www.hu.ic.ac.uk/translation/

Only problem, it's not offered by distance or online education. However, there is a questionnaire that you can fill up and return to them, in order to voice your interest in an online version of this MSc.

I've just completed mine

Yes, I knew about this course, and you are right, I also thought it was extremely interesting. The problem is, as you say, it's not available as a distance course at the moment, and I would not have the time to attend, unfortunately. Moreover, I am looking for medical translation exclusively, if possible. But thanks so much for taking the time to post the info!

Dear RosaT,

Please pay attention to this page - http://www.hu.ic.ac.uk/translation/elearning.html - of the link provided by Marie-Claude Falardeau.

Here is what is written there:
"At Imperial College we are in the initial stages of designing an e-learning version of our successful MSc in Scientific, Technical and Medical Translation with Translation Technology (MScTrans) for distance learners..."

There is a questionnaire you can fill in to help them to design the course in a way you would like to see it.

Publications on Medical Language / Medical Translation Jun 16, 2004

Hi Rosa

Have you considered subscribing to publications dedicated to Medical Language / Medical Translation?

For example, by becoming a member of the American Translators Association Medical Division, you automatically receive the newsletter Caduceus. This year's winter issue is at: http://www.ata-divisions.org/MD/Caduceus_2004Winter.pdf

(You may also be interested in writing for Caduceus from your own experience in medical translation: http://www.proz.com/topic/19183).

There are also other "trade journals" that may be as useful as distant courses...

Best wishes

Elena
