I'm a translator specialized in a medical field but today I have received a job proposal for a translation of a bill of sale. I'd like to know how much I can ask for this type of translation and if it's normal (the agency said to me) that I have to be present at the moment of the sale.
Thanks

No, it's not normal. Dec 20, 2005

No, unless there's something special about the sale, it's not normal - in the UK at least - for the translator to be present at the time of the sale. You should enquire why you - in Italy - have to be there and, if you need to be, add the charge to your bill (invoice in this case).

If you specified what languages you are translating into and out of and what the bill relates to i.e. a bill of sale absolute = contract for the sale of a TV set or of a ship etc. or by way of mortgage = a chattel mortgage of a motor car to raise a loan then, maybe, Italian-based translators would be able to help you further.

Yes it is normal Dec 21, 2005

There will be a notary present who will read out loud the sale documents you have translated. You will be asked to sign in the presence of the notary that your translation is correct. You may well be asked to interpret/translate on the spot for the people involved. This is legal documentation: ensure you feel up to it and if not, find a colleague to do it.
Check all this with the agency and charge by the hour.
