UK MA and MPhil translation courses Thread poster: awilliams

Dear all,
I am currently looking to do an MPhil in translation. Does anyone have any inside information on courses in the UK? The MPhil information in the pile of glossy brochures I\'ve received tends to be hidden in page corners while the MA info is much more obvious.
I would be grateful for any help.
Many thanks,
Amy

hi Amy,
I have recently completed an MSc at the University of Edinburgh in Translation Studies. Italian is one of the languages offered, and I do know that they offer MPhils and PhDs in translation, as some of my colleagues have gone to do them! I also believe that UCL in London and Leeds offer such courses.
Good luck with finding one!
best wishes

The UK translation scene is currently changing quite rapidly, with new courses being added and others closing down.
I am currently doing an M.Sc in Technical Translation at Imperial College, London. The course only started in 2001. I think it is very good. Several colleagues are doing Italian:English. Have a look at http://www.hu.ic.ac.uk/translation/
or contact me.

This is where I completed my MA course.
The lecturers are highly experienced professional translators. They\'re helpful and supportive.
