Try searching this string on google, and tell me if the same thing happens to you:

"détails de principe"principle

I often do this kind of search with both source/target words in hopes of finding bilingual docs that contain the expression I'm looking for.

I often do this kind of search with both source/target words in hopes of finding bilingual docs that contain the expression I'm looking for.

Lately, I have noticed that google tries to "correct" my spelling. The above search string somehow gets changed to:

"détails de principe"principal (correct French spelling but not what I wanted)

I tried retyping the string exactly the way I wanted it in the advanced search box, but STILL, google only gives me results with "principal". This is not the same as the "did you meant to search for XXX" feature, here I have no choice and can't get it to search for what I want.

Is there some setting I should be aware of to avoid this helpful feature? Has anyone else noticed it recently?

Use the plus operator Nov 9, 2009

Use a plus (+) before principle.

Example
http://tinyurl.com/ylzx534
The search string looks like this:
"détails de principe" +principle

. . . when you want the search to be limited to a specific spelling. I put quotation marks around "principle" and only your forum posting was found.

Use - (minus) Nov 9, 2009

I frequently have the same problem. If you write -principal (as well as the term you want to search for), all pages with the word principal are left out.

I have found that this works.
