Internet connection in France for just one month

Dear Colleagues:

I will be in France for one month, next February. I rented an appartment in Montpellier. The flat has a land line, however no Internet connection. What is the best way to have an Internet connection in France without signing a one year or a 2 year contract or ruining yourself? Does somebody knows or have an idea?

Is that what they're called in English? I have a "Clé 3G" but it also needs a 1-year contract - as does the one in the link.

To be honest, I don't know of any way - I hope someone else does. I don't imagine you want to spend all your time in a cybercafé, although they aren't expensive.

I advise you to post this in the French forum to bring it to the attention of all the French-speakers based in France.

I do not exactly know about france. However, I recently met someone who worked in Germany for a few months and had an UMTS stick (not very fast but ok) which was handled like a pre pay card for a mobile phone. Internet access was available wherever there was connection to the mobile phone network.
I see no reason why this shouldn't be available in France.
Have a look on sites of French mobile phone companies.

Here are the three main mobile operators in France. They offer packages with no long term contract (sans engagement) for a USB modem:

This is your best option.
I tried the prepaid option last summer, but it just drains your credit before you know it because they charge per Kb.

I would recommend "buying" hours of connection instead.

If you've got a landline, you could use dial-up for occasional surfing (if you've got the patience!), as Bohy suggests, and buy a USB stick for larger, faster downloads.

I saw the Orange USB sticks at the FNAC the other day. They cost about 80 EUR and, as someone else mentioned, are charged up with pay as you go cards. I didn't see any indication that you had to commit for any amount of time.
