Surfing the internet I stumbled across this link, and I thought it would be of great interest for those who (still) enjoy reading.
So, enjoy!

A very strange collection Feb 5, 2006

I have been looking for e-books for a while, so you made me curious. Thanks for the link.
However, these books feel a little dated (without any sign of a publication date) ; it is an odd collection indeed.
Read this extract from 'Manners and Social Usages' by Mrs Sherwood in the section: 'Women's studies':
"In sending to inquire for a person's health, cards may be sent by a servant, with a kindly message."

Interesting to see that the list under 'banned books' includes 'Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' by Mark Twain and 'Ulysses' by James Joyce.

Thanks... Feb 5, 2006

Very interesting link, Dan, thanks a lot! Yes, its weird... When I was 10 years old I read Tom Sawyer for the first time, and I never thought I was reading a "banned book"

Greetings

Francisco

Banned? Feb 5, 2006

Included as "banned":
* Jack London`s The Call of the Wild (I thought it was for youngsters)
* Mary Shelley`s Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus (wasn´t it a classic?)
* James Joyce`s Ulisses.

Oh my!!!

I suspect (I haven't checked) that this is because the copyright has expired, which is why they are now free.

Thanks a lot Dan Feb 6, 2006

I have been looking for many of these categories (science fiction books in english, african-american studies, ...) for I don't remember how much.

You are right Marc. These books are now "du domaine public".

Here are a few other sites where you will be able to download books freely.

From the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, links to free downloads of books and documents in a variety of fields and many languages:
http://signets.bnf.fr/

Bibliothèque de Lisieux. As far as I know, only books in french to download. I found there texts that are no longer printed: http://www.bmlisieux.com/

Mainly french writers: http://abu.cnam.fr/

Is there some place where we could find paper and ink for free?
