If you like the Internet as a means of providing and receiving online services, I have an interesting article to share with you.

The focus of the article is not specifically translation services, actually it is much broader in perspective. The article was published in the Wall Street Journal on June 2, 2007.

I hope you find the article helpful in broadening your view of the Internet and other online services besides translation.

Best Regards,

How to Outsource Your Project Online

1. Create a "project description" for what you need done. Be specific. Saying "organize my family photos" is not enough. Specify whether you want your digital files captioned and how you want them ordered. Providing a sample can be helpful.

2. Locate an outsourcer. One approach: List your project on an online marketplace, such as Elance (, Guru ( or Rentacoder ( Membership is free; sites take a commission when you pay the vendor.

3. Evaluate bids. Sites publish ratings based on feedback from other customers, which can help narrow things down. Ask vendors to send samples of their work and ideas for your project.

4. Award the bid. Once you have selected a vendor, you will finalize terms. Most sites act as a financial intermediary, paying the vendor on your behalf. This eliminates the need to give your credit card number to an overseas merchant.

5. Receive the completed work. Once you are satisfied, you will sign off on payment. You will also likely be asked to provide your own rating of the vendor (on some sites, customers are rated by merchants as well).
