Thank you for posting this, Amy. Dec 9, 2008

From the link: "Unfortunately, the same US military that depends on them has needlessly placed Iraqi interpreters and their families in jeopardy. For the past several months, commanders in Baghdad enforced an ill-considered policy prohibiting Iraqi interpreters from wearing masks to conceal their identities while on patrol."

Shocked. Sad. Angry.

A young woman with a promising future has died, because U.S. military insisted on following the rules (rules written by whom?). Truly irreplaceable loss of a life, and could be so easily prevented.

ATA Dec 10, 2008

The ATA has most clearly taken issue with these rules and is trying to do something about it. I would consult the ATA website for more information if anyone is interested. There is a link on the homepage. (atanet.org)

Very interesting article, Amy.

Here's a link to an article on the ruling from the BBC.
