Hello everyone

Do you know of any apps that one can use at a conference to broadcast an interpreter's voice via Wi-Fi to Android phones in the audience? The broadcaster doesn't have to use Android, and the clients should be free and preferably not ad-supported (the broadcaster server doesn't have to be free).

So far, I've found these:

Hello everyone

Do you know of any apps that one can use at a conference to broadcast an interpreter's voice via Wi-Fi to Android phones in the audience? The broadcaster doesn't have to use Android, and the clients should be free and preferably not ad-supported (the broadcaster server doesn't have to be free).

So far, I've found these:

Clients are Android or iOS. Broadcaster must use iOS. If broadcaster uses "corporate" version, clients are free. If broadcaster uses "pro" version, clients cost $1.50. I'm not sure what the corporate version costs, but it looks like $50. The client is a 2 MB download.

So expensive that they won't tell the price on the web site.

Broadcaster uses Windows computer, clients use Android app. The broadcaster server is free, and the free Android client is ad-supported. The ad-free client for $4.00. I like the fact that the client is a 0.5 MB download. I could not get this to work on my computer, though.

Another option that one could investigate is "walkie-talkie" apps, but I've yet to find one that can be used with a non-techie audience.

I was at a local speaker event where there were some refugees in attendance who couldn't understand the local language, and they were forced to sit way at the back, with borrowed headphones all plugged in to a distributor with a cable running into the interpreter "booth". Yet all of them have smart phones.

Haven't tried it myself, but... Oct 18, 2015

I believe that the WhatsApp messaging app has this function. I have a couple of friends who offer talks, lectures, and lessons over WhatsApp, and they seem to do well with it.
