I bought il RAGAZZINO terza edizione Inglese-Italiano Italiano-Inglese but have found it kind of lacking in details and usage.
Is there any better general dictionary? Any that can be purchased only in the Italian_English combination?

for a start you can look at Hazon / Garzanti, it is online and free:
http://www.garzantilinguistica.it/
you must just register and get the password, after that you can browse it any time you like.
Otherwise I would also suggest the Oxford Italian/English - or other as listed for example at

There is the 2 volume from Italy, the Sansoni-Harraps 4 volume (old) and the Collins Sansoni which seems a lot smaller, although it calls itself unabridged (1 volume).
I assume people are talking about the 1st, which I can\'t find available except used, although it was published last in 2000, it looks like.

But it\'s 2277 pages! Quite large for a single volume.

I\'ve found the OUP DII from 2001 to be very useful. It\'s big, >2000 pp.
