Howdy all, looking for a good resource on Japanese financial terminology. In particular, I'm doing a translation with a fair amount of stocks and bonds info ("par value", "yield to maturity" and so forth).

There's enough in there to make posting Kudoz questions a little ridiculous, so I didn't know if anyone knew any good resources for translating financial terminology from Japanese to English.

Thanks,

Steve

A good dictionary - in print Dec 14, 2004

Steve,
I know one good resource, but it may not help you right now. It is a printed dictionary, and it may take time to get it, especially in the US.
ISBN 4-327-46121-0
英和国際金融経済辞典
井上邦夫
Dictionary of International Finance and Economics

You can get in from Amazon Japan:
http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/4327461210/qid=1102990144/249-8765173-6389160

This is not simply a dictionary, it has explanations as well, in Japanese. Therefore, it is geared towards Japanese speakers to understand the English terms, as it is an English-Japanese dictionary. However, it has a pretty good 25 pages J-E index/glossary at the end, which is useful for a J-E translator.

I hope this helps, if not right now, maybe in the future.

Some other on-line resources Dec 14, 2004

1. You may want to give it a try, although it is mainly a monolingual Japanese glossary - it may help if you understand finance, and able to figure out the English equivalent based on the detailed Japanese explanation.

Good ideas! Dec 14, 2004

Thanks Katalin,

These are some great resources. Unfortunately, as you indicated, the book won't be much help for this job, which is due next Monday. (^_-)

Ah well, I may have to resort to careful use of ProZ.

The link you sent is good as well, but unfortunately, bonds aren't an area of strength for me in English either. There are some terms I'm familiar with, but a few others that I'm just not sure what the best translation is.

Thanks very much
