Found three Russian-English KudoZ questions in which the Russian had been incorrectly entered in the glossary due to wrong encoding. Using the "gloss" option, I was able to correct two of these [510702 and 510795], but could not correct the third one [510598] because the KudoZ page (Beta version) appeared without any glossary option.

Please keep some means of editing KudoZ entries! Sep 2, 2003

I can't read Russian, but I think in general there should be some way to correct or edit KudoZ entries.

On the whole the system works very well, but anyone can use it, so askers are not all experts.

Some of the questions that get asked should certainly not be asked by professional translators in the pairs concerned. But that is one big advantage of KudoZ - you can get help with that odd expression on a website/in a novel/on the back of a product you bought etc. etc.

However, it may mean that the asker is not able to put the question very clearly, doesn't have the right codes for the alphabet... and anyway is not qualified to grade the answers except by gratitude level!

But then it is up to moderators or other experts in the right language to make sure that only correct, fully explained entries are kept in the permanent database.

You're right Sep 2, 2003

But then it is up to moderators or other experts in the right language to make sure that only correct, fully explained entries are kept in the permanent database.

And you can help. When you notice something wrong, send the link with your comments to the moderator. When you give all the information it's very easy to correct wrong entries. Moderators cannot be everywhere and see everything, and the glossaries benefit us all, so let's work on them together.
You can also add a new answer with your comments when you disagree with the chosen answer, even if the question is already closed. The glossaries give access to the question and all the answers, so it will be useful.

Yes, but why should one KudoZ page not have a "gloss" option when others do have it? Sep 3, 2003

Thanks to all who answered; the incident that prompted this post has obviously now been resolved satisfactorily. But I was hoping for a reply from Jason or Hermann or some other expert who could tell me why this happens - was it just a one-off, or is it a bug?
