This is probably not a new idea, but recently it sounded again in the Russian forum.

The idea is a ongoing `contest' of the most interesting and impressive kudoZ questions/answers. Without any real prizes, just for fun of it.

What I propose is to arrange Month/Year KudoZ Best contest (or maybe even Week KudoZ Best question/answer).

It would probably take some efforts to program it on the site, but here is a possible algorithm:

1) a special clickable field at a question page allows any registered member to add the question or an answer to the list of potential "the best questions/answers". After this the question/answer is automatically added to the list of potentially best of the week (within the corresponding language pair).

2) During the following week any registered member may visit a special page and vote for a question or an answer. The member may have 3 points to distribute or have a right to give his/her vote to three questions/answers among many, or something like this.

3) Three best questions/answers selected by voting each week go automatically into "Month kudoZ best" voting list. Any registered member may vote for the best question/answer in a pair during two weeks after the end of the month. The winner is selected by the majority of votes.

4) Three best question/answers selected by voting each month go automatically into "Year kudoZ best" voting list. Any registered member may vote for "the best kudoZ question/answer of the year" during a month.

I think that such a feature of the kudoZ system would give an additional flavour to our creativity in kudoZ questions and answers. The polling might give us an opportunity to savour the best samples of translation skill, to take pleasure in brilliant questions and answers, to praise our talented fellow translators. Some prizes for the winners may be introduced or not, it does not really matter.icon_smile.gif What do you think, dear colleagues and the staff?

Great idea Jun 27, 2004

This is a wonderful proposal and this provision will definitely inspire the professionals to draft the answer in a more lucid and impressive manner, thus adding to the usefulness of the system.

and further refining :) Jun 28, 2004

let the voters have three little orchids but let's not forget to give them also an opportunity to award/distribute three little onions too...
maybe this will force some people to think a bit more BEFORE giving some answers as nobody likes to be laughed at
