Hello everybody,

I have some questions relating to kudoz.

Sometimes I get an e-mail notification when new terms are asked in the terminoloy section, somethimes not. And when I click again on the terminology list, new questions are appear and answers are already given and I didn't receive an e-mail notice or it comes a long time after.

Is there any separation made for the type of terms/sectors/the area where you are specialized or work in ?

Who decides that a question is considered a PRO or NOT PRO ?

I'm not so used to Pro'z and it's fonctions yet, so I would appreciate your help.
I hope I'm clear in my questions.

Thank you in advance

Michaela

decide whether it's PRO or NOT PRO.
And for me personally, that's the biggest problem... As a result, I simply unsubscribed from all KudoZ, just not to lose my time anymore.

some answers :-) Apr 25, 2013

Hello Michaela

You can change KudoZ notification settings in your profile in "My email settings" (in the main drop down menu when you hover over your user name) or directly in the dashboard http://www.proz.com/?sp=dashboard&sp_mode=kudoz

Further information in the FAQ section http://www.proz.com/faq/4348#4348

Pro or non-pro classification is decided by the asker, but it can be changed by other users (in any direction) with the voting feature

Further information in this article
KudoZ - deciding whether a question is PRO or non-PRO http://www.proz.com/translation-articles/articles/95/
and in the FAQ section http://www.proz.com/faq/2764#2764

I hope this helps!

Ciao, D

the best solution... Apr 25, 2013

Hi Michaela
I had this problem when I joined Proz. I think you are using a Yahoo account and that's the reason you don't receive Kudoz notifications on time. If you want this problem to be solved please use Gmail to receive the notifications shortly after a question is asked.
Hope this helps
Mohammad

Askers get to initially classify a kudoz question as pro or non-pro. However, any proz.com member can request to change this classification by voting for it, and if three proz.com members vote for this change, the classification gets changed, that is, from pro to non-pro or from non-pro to pro.

However, I know of cases where this facility is misused to deny pro kudoz points to a rival translator. Kudoz points are a criterion used to rank translators in proz.com. However, it takes into account only the points earned for pro level questions. So a near rival alarmed by you approaching his level in the translator totem pole can try to get a kudoz question you have answered and which you are likely to win, marked as non-pro, thus depriving you of pro kudoz points.

I think the pro/non-pro distinction is rather arbitrary and should be done away with. It will simplify the rules of kudoz and reduce the possibility of misuse of kudoz and unseemly and unfair competition among translators for climbing higher up the translator totem pole.

Hi Michaela! As Daniela points out, you can set your KudoZ email notification preferences via http://www.proz.com/?sp=dashboard&sp_mode=kudoz . However, in order to look into this further, would you mind submitting a support request containing the link to at least 3 KudoZ questions for which you were not notified and that you believe you should have received a notification? This will help support staff to look into this further and make sure you are receiving all the notifications you want.

You can submit a support request here:

http://www.proz.com/support/

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Lucia

@Lucia, I made some changements in my notifications, I'll see if things will work correctly or not, otherwise I'll submit a support request, thank you for your help.

What do you call a non PRO question ? A question is a question, so I don't understand the différence.
