This very sad news came just before Christmas: Robert Zawadzki has died on December 22nd.

ProZ.com community will remember him as a passionate organiser of a pre-conference powwow in Kraków, Poland as well as a New Years Powwow in 2004. An active forum participant, always warm and friendly, helping colleagues out with various technical issues.

We will miss him.

Hard to believe Dec 26, 2006

I always read his good humor in the forums with a smile. What a sad loss, Magda, just when we are about to start a new year.

My condolences to his family and to the Polish community, to all Prozians.

My heartfelt condolences to his family Dec 26, 2006

I remember Robert very well from the Kraków dinner, which he had organized. He was always very friendly and enthousiastically telling about the interests he and his son had in computers and mathemathics. How sad for his family!

Very sad news Dec 26, 2006

I "met" Robert for the first time in this forum
    http://www.proz.com/post/287013#287013.
Some time after that I knew that I was going to Poland and I contacted him. He and his family hosted us, my daughter and I, in his flat. He helped us to prepare our trip before leaving and once there he sent somebody to the station to wait for us, with his cell phone, in order to be always able to help us.
Nice and generous guy, very proud of his son and daughter with a very brave and sweet wife. They did all they could to make our stay pleasant.

It's so sad, Robert. I wish your family all the necessary strength.

    Claudia

I also remember Claudia praising not too long ago Robert's (and Magda's) wonderful hospitality in Poland, in another thread I started about powwows ( http://www.proz.com/topic/58204 ).

So it is rather shocking to learn now about Robert's death.

I just posted the following photo in another thread (in the Spanish forum), but I thought it would fit here as well:

    Sad news Dec 26, 2006

Last year, Robert was kind enough to help me, a total stranger, with a document that was giving me some trouble. I will not forget his generosity and eagerness to help.

    A very valuable learning Dec 27, 2006

Today I have learned, first, that there are allways men that we will miss, regardless the fact of our aquaintance. I did not met him, but reading the postings gives me the sense of loss that the departure of a good man leaves.

My condolences to the comunity, his close friends and, with this particular respect we mexican have for death, to his family.

Secondly, I am learning how true a comunity this is. I am a newcommer. A very new one. I´ll do my best to keep on the level.

    Sad news Dec 29, 2006

He didn't know me, but when I had a huge Trados problem, he was there to help me, to solve my problem and I could deliver a translation in time. He even took a time to explain what I should do next time. We have lost a colleague and a good person. But, two kids have lost a father... how sad.
My deepest condolences to his family.

    Regards

    Clarisa
