We all know how translation gone wrong can be funny or politically embarrassing (today's visit of Mexican President Felipe Calderon being "marred by translation"). There are documented incidents on how the Imperial system almost killed people and damaged millions in property (see the Gimli Glider story, where a Boeing 767 ran out of fuel in mid-flight).

Does anyone know of incidents where (incorrect) translation had a severe impact?
