While I am putting things ready for the evening, I find this little gem on the packaging of a "Wishing Light" (one of those oriental flying lanterns):

" Wishing light operating instructions

1:After the distribution of fuel to packaging equipment Kong Cross wire in the side of the field again deduction presses
The fuel-pressure lock firmly.

2:A person wishing light take up a Top;
Another person fuel ignited the four angle.

3:Wait for that the heat enough light, lanterns person lest loose
A top hand, changes grips under the light to encircle, Has when
the lifting force may let go releases for flying.

4:Wishing light rose slowly the sky, do not forget Wishing oh********* "

There also seems to be an Estonian translation inside the package; I can't wait to see what the translator has made of these linesicon_smile.gif.

Lõpp on lähedal - happy celebrations!

Did you manage to do anything with your lantern???

I am curious as I have no clue what the item was or what it's supposed to do.

Keep us posted.

Happy New Year!!!

A well-known operator Dec 31, 2012

This translator's style is very popular. It's unmistakably the same found in the example I've put at the bottom of .

My first contact with them was a phrase in some electronic gizmo: If diplay go blind you may meet dead battery. Sounds like a cartoon script... a CRT monitor wearing sunglasses and a white cane, groping under the car hood for the ghost of a battery.

Two of my favorites... Dec 31, 2012

(which I show on the Language tab of my profile):

Label on a new pair of shoes:

Step by Step with XXX Your Comfort is guaranteed. We use leathers duly manufactured with linings very soft soles in PU, TR and Latex. Together with this for we guarantee all your comfort our shoes are made in the most comfortable existent constructions as macassins, stroble and manual sewed.

(It's the "stroble" that really gets me.)

And another from washing instructions for a bed sheet:

•Do not wash fabric into heavy loaded tomb, at most 40ºC.

No body parts Dec 31, 2012

At least you're not asked to attach the lantern to any body part. The lawn trimmer I bought 3 years ago asked me to "attach handle to hand". As I have as yet to find anyone willing to lend a hand, the non-built trimmer is still in the shed...

Municipalities and local government in Sweden use GT too ... Dec 31, 2012

This is from Nyköping's website:

Changed download times around Christmas and New Year - risk of delays due to slippery
2012-12-11 There is a severe ice in our region. Waste collection is delayed in some areas. Let stand in front vessels until they run out. Read all about the changes in download times for your waste bins around Christmas and New Year in a folder from Nyköping. Here you can see which times are and how to sort and recycle julsakerna.

The head of information/communication in Nyköping explains the use of GT with, and I quote, "We get 56 languages for free."

Here's hoping for a more intelligent 2013!

Actually Jan 2, 2013

I find some of this quite poetic.
No. 4 sounds almost like a haiku, of sorts:

Wishing light rose slowly the sky, do not forget Wishing oh

The Title Jan 3, 2013

I found the title "Who needs a translator, anyway?" is pretty similar to "Who needs a psychologist, anyway?". icon_smile.gif
