See how you manage on this English test: http://www.okcupid.com/tests/take?testid=14457200288064322170

I got the following score:

92% Beginner, 92% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 80% Expert

I should have got 100% on Intermediate as the one I got wrong I really knew the answer.

Can anyone get 100% on everything. NO CHEATING! THAT SPOILS THE FUN!

It would be also interesting to see what some of the non-native English speakers score. Sometimes foreigners are better at these kind of things than natives (I know many French and Catalan rules better than many French speakers and Catalans).

Finally Happy St. George's Day to all the English and Catalans celebrating today.

This is what I got: Apr 23, 2005

Advanced
You scored 85% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 66% Expert!
You have an extremely good understanding of beginner, intermediate, and advanced level commonly confused English words, getting at least 75% of each of these three levels' questions correct. This is an exceptional score. Remember, these are commonly confused English words, which means most people don't use them properly. You got an extremely respectable score.
Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

My results... Apr 23, 2005

You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 80% Expert!

Which annoys me a bit, because I should have gotten the two questions in the expert section right as well... Lack of concentration, probably.

By the way, I'm a non-native speaker of English, and I agree that we sometimes have an easier time with test like this one.

This is what I got...

English Genius
You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 100% Expert!
You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

I guess this is just because English is not my mother tongue.

Very fun indeed!!!

Natalia

Am I really that good ;-o) Apr 23, 2005

I just did the test "on the go", without checking when I was not completely sure. A thing I don't usually do when I have to write in English.

Another non-native score Apr 23, 2005

Im a native Polish speaker. Here is my score:
92% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced and 86% Expert.
No problems with expert, but Im quite puzzled as to a would-be 'tendency' to score lower on 'beginner'?

A really unexpected result... Apr 23, 2005

I'm not a native-speaker, and I do not translate into English, so it was a total suprise for me:

You scored 100% Beginner, 92% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 93% Expert!
You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

Now, it's time to take care about my ego which feels too self-aggrandized these minutes!icon_wink.gif I'm better go back to my work (alas, I have to do some work on the weekend...)

I think that they're a bit generous...How can you eat your "desert" if you don't know that speeding up your car is "risqué"....?...Italian humor?
Thanks for sharing ...or shearing...or sheering??????

We're such suckers for anybody to tell us how great we are, and always ready to jump in for an ego trip!!
More seriously, this is really basic stuff, at least for anyone of us claiming to be a professional linguist in English! but it was kind of fun and gave me another good reason to procrastinate instead of working on my translation! Thanks.

all my best - dominique
