A first grade school teacher in Virginia had twenty-five students in her class.

She presented each child in her classroom with the first half of a well-known
proverb and asked them to come up wit h the remainder of the proverb.

Theirinsight may surprise you. It's hard to believe these were actually done by
first graders, 6-year-olds, because the last one is a classic!

Really Funny Story Feb 16, 2007

Hi Odette,

Your story is really funny and relaxing my mind, nerves and muscles.:):):)

As a part-time English teacher at a junior high school, I once witnessed one of my students continued the incomplete proverb I wrote on the blackboard:

Kill two birds with . . . . . . two knives.

idiomatics and children Feb 17, 2007

Thank you for posting these delightful phrases from children.

I have two children of my own (13 and 14) and their use of language can be quite entertaining and enlightening.

Never dismiss what a child has to say.....they say some "gems". Their spontaneity and lack of inhibition can be wonderful and generally speaking children are worth listening to.

They are the future and we should treasure them.

Thanks again for making me smile.

So long as you don't mistake them in a translation....

I copied them from a friend myself.

It helps to start with a smile

Have a good day,
Ode

Thanks to you Hipyan
I like this one as I often misquote it.
In French it is 'one stone for two hits'

Hi Liz,

Well, you still have a few years to enjoy... And then come the grandchildren...I have six (already !)
I was baptized 'Bômère' by the first one who could not pronounce 'grand-mère' (grandma) at the time.
Then, I was introduced to the second one as ' Ta Bômère '
as the nickname had stuck and became, guess what ? 'Tabômère'
Now, I am expecting one will some day come out with 'My Tabomère' (My Yourgrandma) as the Québecois sometime use Ma mmatante (my myaunt)...

Have a good day

Hello Elena,

Sometimes I wish I were a teacher... If it were not so stressful at toher times...

I like the 'penny saved is not much'... and most of them actually.

Have a good day
