an act of foolishness or cowardice, methinks Dec 29, 2002

Borges\' visit to Pinochet. And it does change my perception of this great writer.

Now in my dream encounters with Borges, I\'ll have to ask him:

\"You fool, how could you? (praise Pinochet\'s dictatorship)

I \'ll report his answer, don\'t worry.

My personal quotes: Jan 18, 2003

I can remember many quotes which I like.

The funny ones, well, many I already saw them around.

But these two I remember with particular intensity:

One for myself:

\"There are no strategies for the person of great moral uprightness\"

--Sun Tzu

And one for the world:

\"When the due process fails us, then we truly do live in a world of terror\"

(I am not sure about the author\"

These are really nice forums.

Enjoy!

Apologies.... I forgot Mr. Buñuel... Jan 20, 2003

If someone were to prove to me--right this minute--that God, in all his luminousness, exists, it wouldn\'t change a single aspect of my behavior.

If you were to ask me if I\'d ever had the bad luck to miss my daily cocktail, I\'d have to say that I doubt it; where certain things are concerned, I plan ahead.

The advertisement is the most truthful part of a newspaper.

I first realised France was a nation of intellectuals when, arriving from the USA for the first time, I went to the toilet and found newspaper cut up into square little sheets and carelessly stacked into a heap next to the bowl. It was my first lesson in political science.

Decades later, my boss at a wire service invited me to a one-on-one goodbye lunch and well into the third brandy, I sighed something like \"Gee, what a shame we don\'t move real information.\"

Smiling philosophically with a twinkle in his left eye, he just said \"Oh Arthur! Never expect that!\"

Refreshing this thread May 14, 2004

Hi folks !

Using the ProZZ search engine to find out some other info that I need right now, I have found back this nice thread that I loved so much when it came out.

As I assume that there is a lot of newcomers on the site, and that it is not ovious that they have the curiosity and/or time to "search in the Oldies" of this forum and thus I take the responsibility to do it for them.

I do hope that it will boost it again !

Sorry for the pingin-english but I have no time to read it back...
