From the (apparently) official Czech website pushing for the 2016 Olympics:
“Jarkovsky prove altogether easily persuade then foreign minister Edvarda Beneše, do you Olympic Games is able to first-rate advertise emergent Czechoslovakia abroad,” explains like pragmatic enthusiasm Gutha-Jarkovskeho.
Paris had Olympic Games, Prague only big congress
Struggle for summer Olympic games 1924 he began. Then – already was almost rotten, do you really break out. But to the events hit friendship Czech Gutha Jarkovského and founder Olympic cogitations, baron Pierra de Coubertina. “”explained him, do you already him there is a draught on sixty times, do you already is it elder statesman and he would like with Olympic Games disjoin at home, in Paris,” summarises Coubertins case wheelwright. When the in addition baron passed on table profitable offers, namely arrange in Prague in the year 1925 big Olympic congress, Guth-Jarkovsky agreed.

This is gold medal stuff, surely?

(To be fair, I looked at a news flash, and it seemed to be properly translated, but the background material is truly Olympic in spirit ).

Can you imagine if you had to deal with work like that every day as a quality control reviewer? You'd either quite in short order or slowly go insane.

I scrolled to the bottom and found "translated by robot". Uhh, no kidding!!

Which MT did they use? Sep 23, 2007

You know the best part? Babelfish doesn't even have a Czech-to-English function. None of the free online MT tools I know do. Which means that the committee actually paid for whatever software spit out that garbage.

You would think that with all the investment into promotion of the Olympic Games that they would at least spend a few euros on translation of their text!
Just goes to show you that until something is pointed out to them, misers will always be misers with respect to translations (and unfortunately for them) even after something is pointed out. Everyone is an expert translator after 2 hours of a foreign language

You are right, this is really terrible but fortunately it's not the official website I just had a look at the Czech version and from there it's clear that someone is gathering Czech news about the Olympics and putting them together on his own site, using a program (?) called WordPress (http://www.headsetoptions.org/support/) which probably also does the "translation". The MT does not even pay attention to flections of names ("Pierra de Coubertina" is Czech genitive or accusative)... So no tax-payer's money at least for this botch
