filtering XML statements
Thread poster: Madeleine Chevassus
I translate XML files on a regular basis. The goal is to translate only "text" and to have the CAT tool ignore the "context" and " description" statements.
I worked with Trados Studio; at the beginning I performed that filtering manually, then I obtained a script; it works but it is very heavy.
I am more and more using MemoQ andI would like to have an equivalent script to obtain this filtering.
Thanks a lot - Madeleine

Surely you can create a filetype for these and then work only with the text?
| You definitely need a file type definition || May 30, 2013 |
If you work with these files regularly, then you need a filetype for Studio.
If you work with raw xml in Studio (or in any other software) then you run the risk of damaging the tags.
If you don't know how to do it, I can create a file type for you, based on the samples you'd provide. But it is a paid service.

Thank you Piotr,
I did it myself in Studio and it works, I can reuse it again and again
my concern is:
how to perform the equivalent filtering function in MemoQ (I am still new with this product).

| MemoQ is not more difficult || May 30, 2013 |
If you know which elements are translatable, which are inline and which are external, the philosophy is the same in MemoQ for xml files, only the UI is different.
Actually you can define the XML settings during import of the XML file and save them for future use.

@ Piotr: MemoQ is really easier to use but there is no manual and I had to find a solution quickly.
@TheAlphasense: thanks a lot, your method worked pretty well and the file type is now available for next similar XML translations!
Have a nice week-end - Madeleine
