Hi all,
A client of mine asked me to localize an Excel file contain their GUI segments.

Some of the segments contain variables as following:

%COMPANY_NAME_FULL%
%RPS_SHORT_NAME%
%1 Bytes
%1 KB
%1 hour(s), %2 minute(s), %3 second(s)
Invalid file size ({0}) - "{1}"
Physical directory error - "{0}"
Migrating index entry Job="{0}" Path="{1}" Type="{2}
"Successfully removed volume [%s].
CAUTION!\\n\\nAll data on volume [%s] will be DESTORYED!\\nConfirm you want to delete this volume?

etc...

My question is how can i filter all these variables in order to present them as tags, not as words, to differ them from the actual text for translation?

Omer

Regex tagger Apr 26, 2016

Hi Omer,

you need to use the Regex Tagger, either as a cascading filter or after you have imported the file. You will find some more info here:

http://kilgray.com/memoq/current/help-en/index.html?regex_tagger.html
http://kilgray.com/memoq/current/help-en/index.html?add_cascading_filter_dialog.html

Before we can help you with the regular expressions that you need to apply the filter, you need to define the exact rules that will match all relevant variables (e.g. all text within curly brackets, all text within square brackets, a percentage sign followed by a number, a percentage sign followed by word characters (letters, digits, underscores) until another percentage sign is matched, //n etc.).
The below strings will match the above mentioned examples to get you started.

\{.+?\}
\[.+?\]
%\d+\b
%\w+?%
\\\\n

Johan thank you Apr 26, 2016

Hi Johan,
It helped, but maybe too well.

For after applying your rules, it caught text that should be translated as the following:

Check your connection and click [Retry].....

When Retry was tagged, though it should not have...

There aren't many shows as such, but I will have to refine.

Send me your details, in case you're doing memoQ engineering jobs, I might need your services

Important to get it right from the beginning Apr 26, 2016

Hi again,

glad it got you started. There's always a risk that you will match too much, and it's rather tricky to undo the tagging if you discover an error later on (while if you spot it right away you can just click ctrl+z). I'd be willing to help out if I'm able to. I'll PM you my mail address.

/Johan
