Translating SQL files
Thread poster: Alaina Brantner
I have some SQL files that the client has requested translation on. How do folks generally process those files or isolate the string content for translation within? I've tried importing into memoQ with no luck.

What do you mean by "SQL files", Alaina? What format exactly are these files in?
If you have files with the extension .SQL, these files are text files and you can open them with any editor, but the files contain SQL commands together with the actual database content. It might be tricky and risky to separate code from content here.
The best way would be if the client could deliver the table content in the form of CSV or Excel files which you then can translate with your CAT tool and deliver them back in that format. Import and export from/into SQL should normally not be the job of the translator, particularly as there are many different SQL systems.
One more thing to consider is that SQL tables have fixed field lengths, your translations therefore will have to observe the field lengths, otherwise they will be truncated on import.
