Hello all,

I am just starting out as a freelance translator/interpreter and am wondering what typical rates for interpreting are. I have a potential job that is a day-long conference, and I would be translating into my native language. I have interpretation studies but no formal experience. What would be appropriate?

Thanks!

if you are freelance then you can set your own rates. Working for the Council for example is 16 pounds per hours for unqualified, and 20 pounds per hour qualified with diploma, but as they are the intermediary agency, they get a cut, and charge clients somewhere in the region of 37 pounds per hour- this is one example, but you should be able to negotiate going rate?
