Agency reducing rates

Quite simply not willing to pay decent rates Dec 16, 2008

I did some work for this agency in the summer, a certified translation DE-EN, allegedly an urgent job. My rates were paid without any discussion. The translation was reviewed and deemed to be "accurate and competent". Subsequently, however, I received an e-mail telling me to reduce my rates, otherwise I would land at the bottom of the pile of translators when jobs were on offer. Subsequently, however, I received an e-mail telling me to reduce my rates, otherwise I would land at the bottom of the pile of translators when jobs were on offer. I consider my rates to be reasonable for accurate and competent translations in the complex legal field requiring a well-qualified translator, so I did not react. Then I got an e-mail about a buisiness award made to the company, and in hot pursuit the notification about a 6% reduction in rates owing to the current economic climate.
