Does anyone know if self-employed freelance translators can take the $400.00 Making Work Pay stimulus tax credit for 2009?

It sounds like it Dec 24, 2009

It sounds like we can. Self-employed people are eligible, but it could throw off quarterly estimated tax payments. (For those of us who do make quarterly payments.)

I think that they purposely make the tax code complicated so that you just give up.

At any rate, yes, I think that people over a certain age did receive a $250 stimulus bonus which is to be deducted from the $400.

There just have to be a lot of accountants/translators on this site from various countries. It would be excellent indeed if Proz.com would offer one representative from each country free membership in exchange for moderating/participating in a corresponding tax consultation forum.

That's why I'm trying to figure this out before the January 15 payment is due.

and the verdict is? Jan 23, 2010

Was anyone able to find more information on this? Are we eligible or not? The information given by the IRS online is so vague!
