Tell me, what is a "traducteur expert"? I answered "no" on the basis that if I was one, I'd probably know!

Hi Sheila,

It is a sworn translator. However, to be honest, having just installed my business in France, I have no idea what the difference is between "traducteur expert", "traducteur assermenté" and "traducteur certifié", if any.

Maybe some of the French colleagues can help to clarify.

"Traducteur expert" is a short for "Traducteur expert près le tribunal/la cour de (nom de la juridiction)" or "Traducteur expert judiciaire" or... "Traducteur assermenté"

And your translation is "certifiée" or "assermentée".

A quick edit to add that "traducteur juré" is used in Belgium and Switzerland.

I can only encourage you to participate and to name your real (and confortable) rates and working conditions, always bearing in mind that this poll is the basis for the yearly report of SFT on 'average rates and practices' in France... i.e. there, you do not need to 'quote' with a low rate... all the contrary...

This poll is a good reference when negociating with clients for instance.
