Hi everybody!

Applied as a potential translator for the agency which posted a job here. Got a reply where it is said "There is a subscription fee, based on a contract we’ll signed together, of $1,5 per month for the main translators, and $0.05 for the substitutes. Why is there a cost ? - Because most part of the websites where I can apply are paid ones, and more I apply, more the cost may grow. - If I don’t bring any contract in one year, I will refund your subscription".

Is it normal to be asked to pay like this?

You don't need to pay to work Feb 27, 2010

From your description, this sounds like a broker, not an agency.
There are lots of agencies that won't charge you to take jobs.

Don't even think about it Feb 27, 2010

I think you are also aware of the fact that where there is an opportunity, there are opportunists.

While you're still in two minds... Feb 27, 2010

...why don't you pay my marketing campaigns, eh? You know, the job of getting jobs for you translators costs money, and somehow, I believe that you should be paying for it.icon_biggrin.gif

Statement plain rotten down to its core Feb 28, 2010

Hi rubkina,
I guess there are numerous colleagues who received the same email as the result of sending an "application" to the entity in question. I did not even bother to rethink the matter - the statement you quote is just plain rotten down to its core.

There is nothing else to say about that offer.
