Hello,

I am a translator living in France, and I have a german client who wants to pay me by Euro Travelers Cheque. It is a private person and a big job, so I would be sure to be paid! I have never been paid by Euro Travelers Cheque. Does anybody have got experience with this?

Thank you very much!

Be sure.... Oct 5, 2011

Hello,

One month ago, I received an email from a private person from Sweden, and he wanted to pay me with Euro Traverl Checks. I did a little research in the Forum and I found out that it was a fake, because lots of people had received the same email stating more or less the same things. So before to begin the job, I suggest you to check a little. For example if he/she has an hotmail address, or maybe she/he said to you to pay the half of the project before and similar things.

Be sure before...

Benedetta

Thank you so much for your answer. He really wants to pay 30% of the amount before starting the work. I thought that would be a good point, but when I read your answer, I am not sure. What do you think about this?

Nonsense Oct 5, 2011

Is *any* situation imaginable where *anyone* would want to pay for a professional service with travelers' cheques?

Would you propose payment by travelers' cheque to your plumber?
Your doctor? Your car mechanic? Your accountant? Your grocer?
If you did - what response do you think you would get?

(And you'd pony up that cash rather quickly if they declined and you actually needed their service, right?)

Yes, you're right. I felt that this was "nonsense", but I wasn't sure! Now I am!

Another thread in the scams forum Oct 6, 2011

Here's is just another thread with reports on scams involving travellers cheques: http://www.proz.com/forum/scams/190147-the_same_scam_reported_now_english_spanish-page3.html

Any mention of travellers cheques AND advance part payment should set off the alarm bells immediately. Please steer well clear of such "offers"!

Steffen

Scam Oct 6, 2011

Why would anybody want or need to pay in travellers' cheques? A bank transfer would be easier and cheaper. This is a scam.
