Payment problems with Swedish client

Can anyone offer advice for problems with payment from a Swedish client, specifically when the supplier is not in Sweden but a different EU country. Can a foreign supplier use Kronofogden to collect unpaid debts? My instinctive belief is that the law may be a little unclear when an invoice is issued in one country to a client in another, but is this true? The client in question is not in dispute regarding any matter, such as quality, price, etc., but consistently only pays when further work is required, when in the long term is proving unacceptable. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Have you entered a BlueBoard rating? Jul 10, 2004

I don't have an answer to your question, but I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you to enter a rating on the BlueBoard.

Thanks, Ralf

Kronofogden's website Jul 10, 2004

No personal experience, but have a look at

In the menu, clicking on the heading 'Internationellt' produces the following:

"Både enskilda personer och stater kan ge kronofogdemyndigheten i uppdrag att verkställa utländska fordringar i Sverige, såväl enskilda som allmänna. Hur det kan gå till och i vilken omfattning bestäms av internationella överenskommelser som Sverige ingått med andra stater."

There is also, in the main menu, the option of 'Svar på frågor' and then a subheading of 'Servicejouren' which gives you the possibility of asking further questions.

Good luck!

kronofogden Jul 29, 2004

I think that unless the client is actually resident in Sweden (tax payer, not only citizen), you can't have the Kronofogden helping you to collect your money (you said he lives in another EU country). Which is quite normal I think.

Best regards
