Hi,

Could anyone tell me how they interpret what is written here:

1.3 Payment. Company shall pay Contractor a consulting fee per project for consulting services rendered as specified on Exhibit A.

Compensation

The amount of compensation paid to Contractor for his or her Services will be determined based on the nature of the project, as designated by the Company, and the completion time, as follows:

Primary Translation

Nature of Project Completion Time
3 days
12000 words (custom) (Pay per 1000 words) $30

Translation Checking

Nature of Project Completion Time
1 Day 3 days
12000 words (custom) (Pay per 1000 words) X $18

======================

What do you make out of this? They pay you a flat fee of $60 if you translate anywhere from 1 word to 1500 words? And then another flat fee if you translate anywhere from 1500 to 3500 words?

Has anyone ever seen an agency work with a payment scale like this?

Thanks.

Ask for clarification Dec 31, 2012

I think you should ask them to clarify what it all means. I think the first few paragraphs are just a confused way of saying that they will pay you for your services based on the nature of the job as specified in Schedule A. What does Schedule A say?

Under "Compensation" they give you the deadline and their rates but the pay is so low - 3 cents per word for translation, 1.8 cents for proofreading - that you may ask yourself if you want to pursue this any further.

As for a flat fee from 1-1500 words and another flat fee for 1500-3500 words, I don't see that anywhere in the text.

Schedule A is what I posted - but apparently a moderator deleted all the part regarding the flat fee!
From 1 to 1500 words, one fee; from 1501 to 3000 words, another fee, until 12,000 words.

There's no reason to delete any of my post, it's information available on the web!

This is not possible.

Oh, an html thing! Dec 31, 2012

Oh, I think I know what happened. In the original text, the lesser than signal < was right next to 1500, no space, so the whole chunk until the > didn't appear.

Here it is:

Nature of Project Completion Time
3 days
< 1500 words $60
1501-3500 words $100
3501-6000 words $150
6001-8000 words $210
8001-10000 words $270
10001-12000 words $330
> 12000 words (custom) (Pay per 1000 words) $30

Translation Checking

Nature of Project Completion Time
1 Day 3 days
< 1500 words $60 $40
1501-3500 words $90 $60
3501-6000 words $120 $90
6001-8000 words $160 $135
8001-10000 words $200 $160
10001-12000 words $240 $190
>12000 words (custom) (Pay per 1000 words) X $18

Unacceptable rates Jan 1, 2013

The rates are so incredibly low! I would accept such a system with my customers if the average per-word rate in each of the segments of volume was reasonable.
