Folks,

What's the standard rate for Russian to English and English to Russian translation? For both general and technical texts? (I think my previous post did not show up! Apologies, if the previous post shows up).

Thanks for any information.

Respectfully,

Do check the community rates as Stanislav suggests, but please take them with a grain of salt. The reported rates are most likely different from what people are getting in reality. And many people prefer not to publish their rates because it may put them at a disadvantage.

How can I tell my translation agencies that I would like to raise my rate Apr 16, 2013

Hi,

I am a freelance translator, working for several european translation agencies. My current rate is 0.025 - 0.03 EURO/ word, and as I can see in that forum, this rate is clearly too low. My idea now is to raise my rate up to 0.04 EURO / word. I think this is still a rather competitive rate for the agencies.
My question is now, how can I tell the agencies that I would like to raise my rates. Has somebody experience on that?

Many thanks in advance!

RAISING your rates to 0.04 euros p/w? Apr 16, 2013

I assume you're talking about translating and not proofreading. Now I've heard it all!

The way to raise your rates is to charge about four times your current rate for all new agencies. The ones you work with at the moment will probably not be willing to increase your present rate to anything that nears a respectable figure. Drop them as soon as you can.

Barbara,
Why did you post the same question in two different threads?

http://www.proz.com/forum/money_matters/247204-how_can_i_raise_my_rate.html

There is already quite a bit of discussion going on there.
