Having recently done a translation, I received a word count analysis from the client.
There are five different percentages, including 101 % match. If anyone here has a clue what this means, I would be grateful for comments. As far as I know there is no such thing as 101 %.

It's a 100% match in context Oct 25, 2013

so, it fits the source segment 100%, but it also fits the preceding segment. At least in MemoQ that's what it means.

MemoQ Oct 25, 2013

Thank you, Kirsten. The client used MemoQ, so that must be why.

101% matches Oct 25, 2013

Don't you worry, Norskpro,

They'll only deduct 2 cents per word for them.

Cheers,
Gerard

Only 2 cents? Oct 25, 2013

Actually, Gerard, the weighted word count for 101 % matches is 0 (zero), so it's more than a deduction of 2 cents.

Credibility of the Client Oct 25, 2013

I would also question the credibility of the client because they are concentrating on match percentages instead of the quality of the translation. In other words, they are unable to see the big picture.

I agree, Atil Oct 25, 2013

I also find it very odd to concentrate on percentages in such detail.

The "101" is just a name. It means that the match is a 100% match that the translation software is more sure of than about other matches that are mere 100% matches. Exactly what "101" means depends on what CAT tool the client used to do the analysis with. Do you want to tell us what that program is?
