I'm filling out my income tax form, and Turbo Tax is asking me for the EIN or social security number of the foreign companies that paid me in 2013.

How do I provide this information?

US clients paying you less than $600 generally don't send a 1099, so you list them under other income on Schedule C (don't have exact category in front of me). Same story with foreign clients. As long as you report the income, Uncle Sam doesn't care where it came from.

Be careful with TurboTax and other tax prep programs -- sometimes they miss things or misreport income/expenses (wrong category). Always print out and go through the final document before filing with the government.

I appreciate the advice, Kevin.
I will record my translation income on Schedule C even though I did not get any 1099-Misc forms.

You don't get 1099 form from foreign companies, Feb 14, 2014

but you still have to report the income from them. They don't have EINs usually, unless they are registered in the US as well.
