Caroline

My experience with Swiss agencies Sep 15, 2015

for translations into German is that they prefer to send their jobs to translators based in countries other than Switzerland in order to avoid having to pay rates matching the high costs of living in Switzerland. In general, companies in Switzerland outsource work to non-residents of Switzerland via the Internet, whenever it's possible to do so. So, unfortunately, it is not a good idea to move to Switzerland as a translator and expect to be paid high rates commensurate with the Swiss standard of living.

As far as the Swiss German dialect is concerned, agencies have their texts translated into German German and then have them edited by a native Swiss German speaker in order to save costs. They might do the same with French.
