I have just moved to Hawaii and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the General Excise Tax here? All of my clients are out of state so I understand there is an exemption for out of state sales, but do I need to get a certificate from my clients?

Would be interested in any experience with how this tax applies to freelance translators. Mahalo!

Best to ask State of Hawaii May 9

Simon,

I think it's best to send email to State of Hawaii Department of Taxation (Taxpayer.Services@hawaii.gov) to ask.
http://tax.hawaii.gov/geninfo/get/

Do you have your own accountant? You can also ask him/her an advice.

By the way I think I know you? Check my profile and contact me if you remember me.

Akiko
