I'm a French freelance translator and I need to make a quote for an on-site mission in the USA consisting of reviewing French translations.
Not familiar with this kind of mission, I wonder what hourly and daily rates I can charge for this work.
Thanks for your help.

In case you don't get an open answer to your question - I wish I could help - why not ask for about the same hourly rate you would charge as a freelancer? I don't think it would be too much as they usually make you work faster than you work as a freelancer anyways...

Unless maybe someone else has a different suggestion, maybe a more knowledgeable person on the topic than me.icon_biggrin.gif

I'd seriously like to find out.

Think of your opportunity cost. Nov 10, 2006

Figure that you can translate, say, 500 words an hour. Multiply that by the per-word rate you could get on the translations you'll be turning down to do reviewing. That's your hourly rate for reviewing.icon_smile.gif

My best (highest) editing rate is US$53 per hour per 500 words. Because it is an on-site assignment, you should also take transportation costs into account.

Thanks for helpful answers Nov 10, 2006

I asked for 56$ an hour, excluding all the costs (transportation, food, accomodation, flight).
Unfortunately, the mission was given to a translator nearer the site.
Anyway, I now have an idea of how much I can ask.
