This morning I received what looked like a bona fide paypal email telling me I had been paid a large sum of money and that under law they needed to informm the authorities.
Since I have read about this type of scam before I wasn't particularly worried since I know not to contact through the return message or give codes (I have received bogus bank notices too).
What worries me is that I only use paypal for my clients- never for buying and selling...which makes me wonder how safe the process is, and if outsiders can access my account.
Has anyone had this problem before?

Don't open the email or click any links in there Jan 28, 2007

Hi Kathy,

Have you logged in to your Paypal account directly (NOT following any links that may be contained in said email) to see if that amount is really on your account? There is lots of spamming with fake Paypal emails, and many times the spammers insert a link that will cause trouble to the recepient when it is clicked.

Probably they sent this email out in bulk, not even knowing whether you own a Paypal account or not. I don't think you are in danger here. Just delete the email.

Thankyou all for your answers.
I have sent an email to the paypal address as suggested, because I had controlled my account- I did not have the money accredited to my account ( a large sum...) I would have been happiericon_smile.gif
When I get the paypal reply I will post it here for all.

Thanks again.
