Dear Colleagues, We need to send some money to Italy from New York City. What will be the cheapest way to send money besides paypal? I went to the postal office and they don't sell International money orders to Italy and Western Union and Moneygram are expensive to Italy. The problem of the American Check or Money order can not be used in Italy. All your suggestions are welcome. Karl Edwin Archbold
Moneybookers? | Oct 2, 2007 |
From the U.S., you will have to upload the money from your credit card, otherwise it should be cheap and Ok. If you want to do me a favor, you can open your Moneybookers account from my profile page.

Hi Harry Thank you for your answer.I would like to know how much will be the fee paying the person in Italy with a credit card. The person doesn't has paypal or monybookers. I was thinking buying an American Express because I'm member of American Express and is a free charge buying the Travel check but the minimum checks they have are $150 US dollars. We have to send a small amount of money only. Please let me know. Karl Edwin.

And it doesn't cost him anything. But if you don't want to inconvenience him, your best option is Xoom: no account required on the recipient side, and fee as low as 2-5%. I made extensive research about this in an earlier thread: http://www.proz.com/post/634700#634700 best, Jan

Hi Mr. Doe I think I found the website for Xoom but I don't see Italy in the list of countries that you can send money. Please let me know If is other cheap or free way to send money to Italy. Thank you
Hi Karl, You're absolutely right, I'm sorry! I presumed Xoom was a global player, but it seems that they are more geared for transfers to third world countries, alas. Since it seens that transfer to bank account is prohibitively expensive, I see the following other options: - One-time ATM card (iKobo) - Register account at online service (Paypal, Moneybookers) - In-person collection (Western Union, Moneygram) - Cash in registred ... It's not that difficult! Otherwise, the stone-age "cash in registrered letter" is still your cheapest option. /Jan
