I have trouble with a client in the California area (Beverly Hills), I'd like to contact a lawyer to see what I can do in order to force him to pay.

If you know anything else I can do, I'd be grateful for your advice.

Before you spend lots of money on a lawyer, inform your client that you will report him to the Better Business Bureau if he does not pay by X date. You can even file a BBB complaint onlineicon_smile.gif

Good luck,

An unorthodox method Oct 30, 2007

Have a look at this:

I once threatened to use it on a client in the USA and got paid in full the next day.

If you area an ATA member, I believe one of the privileges is access to a collection agency. Failing that, my next-door neighbor is a lawyer, and she can be fierce. We're only an hour from Beverly Hills!
Good luck,

Self-Help Centers Oct 31, 2007

Dear Claudia,

I am very sorry to hear about your mishap. But it does have a solution.

I think you should go to Small Claims self help center, a small claim can be filed up to a 4000 dollar claim ...if the agency owes you more than that you should not go to Small Claims Court..but I gather their debt with you is not that high right?

You can always go to the self-help centers at San Bernardino County Court house or Rancho Cucamonga court ...I have many friends there who are volunteers and attorneys, as an interpreter I have been around. I have not had to go to court myself ever, yet I know they are excellent and free of charge! You may want to consult them and get help, the only charge will be your filing fee if you decide to file a claim.

Small Claims Court

San Bernardino
Superior Court of California
County of San Bernardino

Inland County Legal services

This is the Small Claims help center San Bernardino contact info ...

Do visit them and see your options, maybe they can give you the Los Angeles office contact info.

Lots of luck, God Bless,

Been there, done that Oct 31, 2007

Hi Claudia,

I had a similar problem and ended up seeking the help of a lawyer. Trying to find the right lawyer was a problem. Asking friends for recommendations led me to lawyers specializing in other areas.

I ended up going to a free service to find a local lawyer specializing in my predicament. Here's the link:

Dear all

I can't say right now how is it going and what I'm doing but I'll let you know once I have some result (good or bad).

Thanks for the good advices here, I'm sure they will serve as further reference too, for other people in the same situation.

Kind regards
